Good review of Statistics...but no MANOVA

I'm giving this book a four star rating. It was a wonderful refresher for some topics in Psychology Statistics but just not enough for Graduate School. It was missing the topics of MANOVA, multivariate analysis of variance and MANCOVA, multivariate analysis of covariance. But overall, the coverage of topics was good.
Statistics can be daunting for many, but remembering that mathematics and statistics are not the same as well as thinking of Statistics as a language are helpful. To learn a language, it takes practice and incorporation into your daily life. Practice, practice, practice makes one more comfortable with the language.
I would recommend it for an undergraduate Psychology student that needs additional reading for mastering the topic but for graduate students it simply is not enough. That's where YouTube comes in, the media video site is chock full of additional support and resource learning. That's how I got through my first graduate statistics class: this book and YouTube.

SPSS software does the number-crunching

I am a layman, but wanted to understand a bit about statistics for Psychology. After reading this book, it occurred to me that I would not use this book to help me pass statistics class, unless I used it as a reference. Without an overabundance of psychological jargon, this book makes learning key concepts and running SPSS software much more accessible. I'm not worried about the Math. SPSS software (student used version) is accessible and easy to understand with this book. The software does the number-crunching.

Too often, books are written in a way that complicates the learning process. This one is better in that way.

I have always been interested in statistics, since Psych 101. It makes me feel like I can make more informed choices. I've always wanted it to be more accessible.

"Dummies" books are always good, and they have certain conventions that make the books easy to understand. An example is: "Dummies" books have special icons that tell you key things about what you are about to read. There are tips, memory joggers, signals of common errors, and when things get technical.

I didn't get lost with this book, as much as I would have reading a college text. At least that is what I think.

I recommend this book as a reference for students, or as a text for laypeople.

SPSS info included, lifesaver

Purchasing this book just for the SPSS information is well worth it. The fact that there are other concepts within the book is just icing on the cake. My husband is in psychology and I am in education. Our worlds often collide. It's been awhile since I've been in school, some my statistics are rusty; however, I'm heavy into educational research. Currently, the only type of educational research that receives federal funding is quantitative. So, here comes statistics that I haven't studied in (dare I say) 10 years. The university has thankfully provided me with SPSS to crunch numbers, but no training or manual on how to use it. This has been a LIFE SAVER! For the amount of money that software manuals cost and the fact that you have to be a computer genius in order to understand the lingo, a general book for dummies is the way to go. This book is very easy to read. It is laid out perfectly for a quick reference if you have a question and the directions for SPSS helped me work through the software on my very first try.

Excellent Book .

There are many books on Reliability Methods on Engineering. I think that many of them are difficult to understand and not practically oriented. This book is easy to understand . Examples are great. All the solution techniques and steps are explained in great clarity and detailed manner. Even a child can learn something from that book. Important concepts on probability and statistics are also emphasized. I've a thesis on Application of Reliability Methods on the Design of Engineering Structures and with the help of this book I've solved all my problems. Many thanks to the writers of this very good book.

Excellent and practical book

Although I didn't read the entire book, I found this book very practical and excellent for people who want to use reliability methods. The book provides excellent examples and recommendations for using different reliability techniques. Also, it provides references for more in-depth information on these techniques. Generally, I liked this book.

Thomas Ashley-Farrand was one of the West s foremost authorities of Vedic and Buddhist Sanskrit mantras. He was recognized for his flawless mastery of mantra practice by swamis, pundits, and shastris across India, and gathered more than 8,000 transliterated mantras the most comprehensive body of these sacred sound syllables in the English language. He received initiations and blessings from a number of prominent spiritual teachers, including H.H. the Dalai Lama. An advanced beginners guide to Sanskrit Mantras and related concepts.

This CD set is highly recommended for anyone interested in Sanskrit Mantras. Absolute beginners to mantras might want to start with the Healing Mantras book and CD set by Thomas Ashley-Farrand, (see my Amazon review).

Those of us in the West will find no better guide to Sanskrit mantras than the works of Thomas Ashley-Farrand. He presents the topic of mantras as one born and raised in Western culture, fully understanding our point of view and how to present this branch of knowledge to us. The mantras, when presented in a written form on the included booklet, are in plain transliterated ASCII-English based text, and the author's voice is clear and understandable.

The subject of Sanskrit Mantras is broken into several logical groups including Masculine and Feminine based mantras, Avatar mantras, and Buddhist mantras to name a few. It contains at least two very powerful healing mantas, mantras for abundance, to remove obstacles, for education and learning, and several for enlightenment. The concepts of chakras, karma, what we refer to as gods and goddesses, and higher realms of existence are covered and explained clearly for those of us not previously familiar with these ideas.

About sixty mantras are presented, and the material is about an advanced-beginners level study guide on the subject. This work was my second introduction to mantras, and at the time I was ecstatic to have found such a rich source of material on a subject rarely presented in the West.

Mantra - Sacred Words of Power is a logical follow up to Healing Mantras. While I might have recommended the 14 CD set Mantra - A Path to Spiritual and Material Attunement instead, Amazon does not carry it at this time. This 6 CD set is a perfectly fine alternative, and the one I personally used a decade ago. Unlike Healing Mantras which is for people with no background in Sanskrit mantras, not as much effort is put forth to emphasize pronunciation. For many people this will not be a problem as the author's mantra chanting is easy to understand.

Suggested reading after this includes the author's two books, Chakra Mantras, and Shakti Mantras, as well as his many mantra-chanting CD's. The CD's that include the titles Mantra Therapy / Healing Intensive each have a carefully selected set of mantras to aid with specific issues many of us encounter in life. Amazon has many selections of the published works by Thomas Ashley-Farrand, and is a good place to begin looking for his most well-known materials.

Lifechanging

After hearing this from a friend, I knew I had to get my own copy of "Mantra...". This really breaks down the whole idea of mantra...what it is, how it works, what it can do for you. The author has a very interesting voice, and the included manual is very through. Even though there are 6 CD's there are lot's more "sections" of instruction. This is fun and easy to listen too. I find myself going back to sections of it almost daily. And I have added Mantras to my meditation practice with a far greater understanding than I ever had. If Mantras interest you for any reason, don't miss this!

Outstanding Value; Masterful

This six audio tape series (with study guide) is an excellent progression from Thomas Ashley-Farrand's beginners and Healing Mantra's series. I was wary of it repeating some of his entry level products on Sanskrit Mantra and I was happy to be proved wrong. This series builds knowledge, and goes a few steps deeper into such things as the seed mantras, karma, Avatars, masculine and feminine energies, attunements, physical organs, and the Gayatri Mantra. It does this without losing the benefits of the beginner's series, yet it also stands on its own. Its an elegant expression of what amounts to an incredibly dynamic and wise system of ancient spiritual practice.

A very well structured series, its easy to learn and to find specific areas of interest including a section on Tibetan Buddhism. Thomas Ashley-Farrand's passion and commitment is apparent to anyone willing to listen.

Its also a wise choice for audio tapes instead of 6 x CD's because if you're like me, I don't have a CD stacker in my car!

Holy flippin cow I am in love with the Renegade Sons.
You love MC's?

This book is for you. I love that there's a bit of a twist on the tradition MC, I don't do spoilers so I'm not telling, just read this book!!

Jenna, aka Ice had a pretty rough childhood, an addict for a mother who ends up living in a MC her father is part of.
Her life goes downhill from there thanks to a sicko pedophile.

She's rescued at age 16 by another chapter who doesn't agree with her treatment.

Kidd's brother Chipper brings home a beat up 16yr old girl, who Chipper and his wife take on as their own, giving her a life.

Kidd is immediately drawn to her, knowing shes too young he stays away. Jenna falls in love with Kidd, but keeps it to herself, afterall he's much older and he's her best friend.

On her 18th birthday that changes, but not as expected.

Once she comes of age she has a couple options, become someones old lady, become a club whore or leave the club.

Club life is all she's known, this is the first real family she's had and she won't give that up.

Jenna becomes a club whore, for six years Kidd has watched and waited for her, he wants her as his old lady but she wants no part of him or being someones property.

I can't tell you the ending, it would ruin it for you, but read this book, it's freaking amazing, I cannot wait for Preach & Daisy's story.

Raw and gritty?! Yeah, not so much.

This book is described as “a raw and gritty story.” In someone’s dreams maybe. It is neither gritty nor raw. The characters may be likeable, but they’re definitely “B-movie” stereotypes. Definitely not bad-ass and not even a tiny bit scary. If real MCs were anything like the Renegade Sons, no one would be afraid of them.

I found the story to be strangely flat, bland and two-dimensional. Or maybe one-dimensional. The book is seriously lacking in description. We get a few descriptions of some of the characters which can be summed up as all the “good guys/gals” are beautiful and all the “bad guys/gals” are not. But there are very few if any descriptions of the environment around the characters. We don’t know what anything looks like. There are vague references to a nearby town and the people there, but the MC never interacts with them. The MC characters are just there in this vague, colorless world. Example, Chipper, Mindy and Jenna go to the clubhouse. Well, obviously not on the back of Chipper’s motorcycle, but what kind of car does Chipper have? Who knows. The authors see no reason to describe the world their characters live in. They seem to exist in a vacuum. And how do you write a “gritty, raw” book about an MC without once describing the bikes?!

In Chapter 1, the club president sends his son Chipper to check out the Mateland Chapter because there is “some s*** going down” such as the members are all stoned, stealing from the drug shipments, stealing club money, and raping underage girls on a regular basis. All of these are violations of the club charter. During the approximately 8-year time span of this book, neither daddy nor subsequent club pres Kidd addresses the issue of this rogue chapter. So much for all the incessant talk about the “club rules.” Kidd is all talk, no action. Or maybe he’s just a pansy-ass wuss.

And Kidd is totally clueless about what is going on. Brother Chipper is keeping secrets from Kidd, because he promised daddy he wouldn’t tell anyone. Because of course a bad-ass biker always keeps important secrets from his club pres. Uh-huh.

And then, there’s Kidd and Jenna. Kidd claims he loves Jenna. He shows this by screwing all the club whores in front of Jenna. Jenna is a foul-mouthed screaming shrew with the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old who claims to love Kidd and shows this by becoming a stripper and club whore and refuses to talk to Kidd for 6 years. And he lets her. Because he “loves” her. Then suddenly he tells her she is now his Old Lady and she says okay. Six years of pouting and being a bitch, and suddenly you’re over it? Just like that?!

And then Kidd hooked up with Sarah for a year or so, but then he doesn’t want her anymore. He is such a pansy-ass wuss, he can’t even manage to dump her ass. Then has an over-emotional tirade when she dies. Because that is apparently what bad-ass bikers do.

And what’s with that silly scene where Jenna shoots and kills Cary? Why are the bad-ass bikers just standing around while Cary chases Jenna with a knife instead of stopping Cary themselves? Because they had plenty of time. And guns. Reese has a gun. Jenna runs across the room and grabs his gun and shoots Cary herself. The MC guys talk a lot about killing people, but again, all talk, no action. Leave it up to the women to have to save themselves while the men just stand around being ineffective and indecisive. Or pansy-ass wusses.

I agree with everything Amy Blanchard said in her one-star review, but I am giving this two stars because I think the authors have potential. If they bother to put some effort into it. Or they could just continue to churn out cheesy silly books about fake MCs. Based on the number of 5-star reviews, there is a market for it.

By the way, as I read this book, I kept thinking I had read this story before. This bears a resemblance to Seize Me by Katie Mac. Both female leads are strippers, get raped, curse like sailors, drink like fish, take business classes online, and open businesses in town. I like Katie Mac’s book better.

I wanna be an Old Lady...... ;)

Okay can I just say from the start that I LOVE this book! Move over Madeline Sheehan and make room for the Renegade Sons!

I LOVE good MC book as much as the next girl does. But This one has made my favorite list. I wanted Kidd to want me! I don't care age difference means nothing to me. WELL not with him anyways ;) But he only had Eyes for Jenna(Ice)Chandler.

The story starts off with Jenna,she's been brought up in an MC. Well dragged up is a better way of saying how she was brought up. Her childhood id horrific. Literally the stuff nightmares are made from. But all of that stops one day when she is saved by Chipper. Chipper is another biker who was to drop by his club. What he see's turns his stomach and Jenna is up and outta there with him,no questions asked.

He brings her back to his club. And at first she is terrified. But Chipper and his family and friends take her in with open arms. His wife and him treat her like a daughter they never had. She finally has the love she never had as a kid growing up.

And its with this MC family that she meets 'Kidd'. Kiddrick Jones is older then Jenna,but that doesn't stop her wanting him. From the moment she see's him she's having to wipe drool off her face LOL.

But he;s a decade older. and she's only 16. It can't happen. So poor Jenna has to sit by and watch while he does what bikers so best....

But Jenna doesn't stay a kid for long and as if over night our beautiful Jenna turns into a beautiful women. And man does Kidd ever notice. ONLY he isn't the only one who does ;)

Threw the years of them battling feeling things go down in the club that keeps them on there toes. In work and in life. This book has angst all the way threw it,and will keep you gripped from page one.

And if your like me you be stalking the girls for books two in the series ;)

esta novela excelentemente escrita corresponde a la Tercera Guerra Punica y fue el ultimo enfrentamiento militar entre la Republica Romana y la antigua colonia fenicia de Cartago entre los a�os 149 y 146 A.C.El nombre punico proviene de la denominacion que daban a los romanos a los cartagineses ,proveniente del latin Punici o Poenici.-
Esta guerra fue mucho mas corta que las dos anteriores y consistio principalmente en el asedio romano a la ciudad de Cartago,llevando finalmente a la destruccion total de la misma y la muerte o esclavitud de todos sus habitantes.-Terminando asi con la existencia de Cartago como nacion independiente.-

Decent content, overshadowed by poor editing

This is a decent summary and case reference for law as it relates to transnational and multi-jurisdictional internet-based business disputes, copyright law in the internet age, and other related topics. The editing of this book is pretty terrible. There are multiple instances of incomplete sentences, sentences that are repeated in the same paragraph, and errors in case references. It apears that, instead of being a final version, this is more of a third draft, and is waiting for an editor. I'm not planning to return the book, but I'll think twice before I buy another West Nutshell Series book.

The book references a lot of relevant cases, but ...

The book references a lot of relevant cases, but does not explain them very well and you have to do a lot of extra research to understand some of the chapters. In the Kindle version there are repeats of entire sentences and paragraphs throughout each chapter, making it difficult to read.
