This is what the "kit" includes:

This review isn't to tell you how great Saxon Math is, we all know that already.
This is to tell you the the "Kit" that is referred to is the brand-new hard-cover text book, the homeschool Testing Book, AND the Answer Key to the text book - three separate books.
The Answer key is JUST answers, if you want to know how to work every problem in the text book, then you want to order the CDs or the Solutions manual in addition to this kit. Don't let the "Homeschool Testing Book" trick you; when you first open the book, the first 66 pages are the solutions to the test, so you are asking yourself: "WHERE are the tests!?!?!" The actual tests are the LAST 35 or so pages of the book. If you don't flip through to the back of the book, you might miss the tests! When I ordered this kit through amazon, I didn't see any description what actually came in the kit, so I thought it was just going to be the text book. So, I am pleasantly surprised! I hope this helps you as your are ordering.

This is the best math curriculum out there. When we pulled our daughter out of public school she was under the 20th percentile in math and thanks to the advice from a few professors and teachers we bought this curriculum. I am so glad we did!! We teach to mastery, which means she works the problems and lessons until she truly understands it & then we move on. I am happy to report that she is now entering High School and going into Algebra 2 in the ninth grade and in her last standardized test she scored in the 97th percentile!!! If that is not a good recommendation, I do not know what is!
As for this particular Homeschool Kit, I blush to say that I did not read closely enough to see that it DOES NOT include the solutions manual!! Everywhere else that I have purchased from the "Homeschool Kit" includes the solutions manual - not just the answer key!! And, they do it for only about $10 more!! So, skip this seller and head over on the web to your local Christian book distributer who currently has this kit which also INCLUDES the solutions manual for only $95!!
Also, if you are wondering whether to invest in the Saxon Teacher CD's (CD-ROM), the answer is YES!!! It teaches every single problem, examples, etc. You just need a computer with a CD/DVD drive.
Here is our winning method:
1) She reads through the lesson & watches the lesson video for new concepts (One of our goals has been for her to learn how to teach herself - invaluable in college!)
2) She works through all of the problems, highlighting ones where she has any particular difficulty
3) She checks her work with the Answer Key - marking any that were wrong
4) She goes back and watches the video choosing the particular problems that she struggled with and/or got wrong
5) She reworks on a new sheet of paper the problems that she missed
6) She double checks her answers again & repeats the process if needed, but at this point she is usually good to go!!
I will say that we do not take summers off and I have found that this has especially helped in Math. No worries, we take time off here and there throughout the year for up to two weeks in a row. :-) All of this, for us, has been our winning formula!! Best wishes!!

Saxon is just a great math series

Saxon is just a great math series. Have found a couple of mistakes in the answer key and a couple of problems in the book that didn't print on the page, but overall good quality Algebra.
